Framework 13 of 13 The Framework Commons

The FREE Framework

Financial Freedom · Relationship with Self · Eat-Exercise-Sleep · Enabling

Freedom is not the absence of constraint. Every life has constraints — financial, relational, physical, circumstantial. The FREE Framework describes not the elimination of constraints but the development of the four capacities that make genuine choice possible within them.

"Freedom is not what you have when the constraints are gone. It is what you have when you have built enough — financially, personally, physically, relationally — that the constraints stop making the choices for you."

— Pankaj Rai
The Open Question

The four dimensions of the FREE Framework interact in complex ways. Financial Freedom often requires sacrificing Eat-Exercise-Sleep in the accumulation phase. Relationship with Self often deepens only after career and financial security have been established. The framework describes the destination. The sequence — which dimension to develop first, and at what cost to the others — is one of the hardest navigation problems any professional faces.

This is the last of the 13 frameworks.

None of them work alone. All of them work together. The practice of any single framework is valuable. The practice of all thirteen, in integration, is what Pankaj Rai spent three decades discovering was possible.
