The 5C Flywheel

Curiosity → Compassion → Conviction → Creativity → Communication

The 5C Flywheel did not come from a whiteboard. It came from a car ride. Pankaj Rai's elder daughter Pragya was leaving for college. The bags were in the boot. By the time they reached the airport, he had named three things he wanted her to carry — not in the bags, but in the mind: Compassion, Conviction, Creativity.

She forgot them. That forgetting became the insight. A framework that cannot be remembered has not yet earned its keep. So the 3Cs became 5Cs — Curiosity at the start to drive the engine, Communication at the end to make the internal externally useful. And crucially: Communication loops back to generate fresh Curiosity.

"I think that's why the 3C became 5C. My forgetfulness led to things being found. It's an excellent framework — and because the 3C wasn't working, my dad had to expand it."

— Pragya Rai

Five qualities. One loop.

The strongest leaders don't think in steps. They think in cycles.

The Open Question

The 5C Flywheel describes what to cultivate. It is less precise about what to do when the Cs conflict. What happens when Compassion for a person and Conviction about what is true point in opposite directions? The flywheel holds its shape in conditions of alignment. The harder question is whether it holds under genuine internal tension.
